In the Historic town of Bridgnorth, Shropshire, there are many cottages precariously perched on the steep hills surrounding the town. This led to the construction of a terraced system of gardens and yards. Many of these terraces are supported by retaining walls of varying quality.
Axis, part of the Property Repair Group which also comprises www.preservationtreatments.co.uk & www.dwcuk.com was invited to partner a scheme to strengthen one such dilapidated retaining wall. Whereas this typically would not create much of a problem, in this instance, access to the site was severely restricted and remote from any form of road. However our proposals involved manhandling equipment with some serious effort, the one hundred metres up the steep and narrow steps to the offending wall. Once in place, eighteen 6metre long rock anchors were drilled and grouted in place. These anchors were terminated at the face with pattress plates. To enhance the effectiveness of these anchors, helical bars were grouted along the full length and height of the wall. Finishing the job off with some carefully matched re-pointing and crack repairs. The Client, The Engineers and ‘The Neighbours’ were delighted at the speed and efficiency of the operation. Please visit www.axisanchors.co.uk
